Gallardo starts Opening Day, Detwiler #4 starter

The Rangers have announced Yovani Gallardo will start Opening Day, and Ross Detwiler will be the team's #4 starter

Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

The Texas Rangers have announced that Yovani Gallardo will start on Opening Day against the Oakldand A's, and that Ross Detwiler has made the rotation as the team's fourth starter.

Neither bit of news is all that surprising.  Detwiler was acquired during the offseason to be the team's fifth starter, and with the injury to Yu Darvish, his claim to a rotation spot simply got stronger.  Gallardo, meanwhile, has been pegged as the likely Opening Day starter since Derek Holland's balky shoulder put him a little behind schedule.

there is no announcement yet on the fifth starter for the Rangers.  Nick Tepesch and Nick Martinez are the leading candidates for gnat job.
