Friday morning Rangers news and links

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning, folks...

The Rangers won yesterday against the Rockies, 6-3.

Nick Martinez was impressive in throwing six scoreless innings yesterday, and T.R. Sullivan thinks he may have won himself the #5 starter job with his performance.

Evan Grant praises Martinez's "tenacity" yesterday in his game report.

I realize that there are some commenters here who can't stand Martinez and don't want him in the rotation, to which all I can say is...

Haters Gonna Hate

Derek Holland will be the Rangers' #1 starter this year, and Tim Cowlishaw is wondering what we will get from Holland in that role.

Yovani Gallardo is starting the season opener for the Rangers, though, since Holland is a little bit behind this spring due to a shoulder issue.  He called it "an honor and a privilege" to start on Opening Day.

The first starters for the first five games appear to be Gallardo, Colby Lewis, Mystery Starter, Ross Detwiler, and Holland.

Ryan Ludwick will not make the Opening Day roster, paving the way for either Ryan Rua or Jake Smolinski -- or possibly both -- to make the team.

The team is still trying to figure out what it is doing with the outfield situation, with Sullivan running down the candidates and options.

Shawn Tolleson's MRI came back with good news, and Evan Grant says Tolleson could throw today.

Gerry Fraley says there is one fewer option for the Rangers at #4 now that Brady Aiken has undergone Tommy John surgery, though I suspect that the Rangers haven't ruled out Aiken with their first pick just yet.

Round Rock will be having a "Willie Nelson bobblehead" promotion this year.

Sullivan's notes talk about Kyuji Fujikawa, Shin-Soo Choo, Lisalverto Bonilla, and Anthony Ranaudo.
