Peguero, Edwards up, Rua, Holland to the disabled list

The Rangers have brought up outfielder Carlos Peguero and pitcher Jon Edwards, and have placed Derek Holland and Ryan Rua on the disabled list

The Texas Rangers have purchased the contract of outfielder Carlos Peguero from AAA Round Rock, and have recalled Jon Edwards from AAA Round Rock.

To make room on the 25 man roster for the pair, the Rangers have placed Ryan Rua on the 15 day disabled list and Derek Holland on the 60 day disabled list.  By putting Holland on the 60 day d.l., they have also opened up a 40 man roster spot for Peguero.

Edwards was in the mix for a bullpen job until the very end of spring training -- however, his stay in Arlington could be short, since the Rangers will have to make a move to open up a spot on the 25 man roster tomorrow for Stolmy Pimentel.  Still, Edwards gives the Rangers a fresh arm in the bullpen today, after having to use the bullpen for 8 innings yesterday.

Peguero was also a late cut this spring -- however, his situation is complicated by the fact that he is out of options.  Thus, if the Rangers want to send him back down when Rua is ready to return, they will have to send him through waivers.  Peguero is a lefty-swinging power hitting corner outfielder, and while he has never been able to stick in the majors in past years, he got rave reviews this spring, and there's some thought that he's made changes necessary for him to have success in the big leagues.

Peguero is in the lineup today, playing right field and hitting 2nd.
