The Texas Rangers have claimed righthanded pitcher Logan Verrett on waivers from the Baltimore Orioles. To make room for Verrett on the 40 man roster, the Rangers have moved outfielder Antoan Richardson to the 60 day disabled list.
Verrett was a 3rd round draft pick out of Baylor in 2011, and has spent his career with the Mets until this offseason, when he was selected in the Rule 5 draft by the Orioles. Jon Daniels is saying that Verrett is in line to be the team's long reliever, or at least fill a multi-reliever role.
Baseball America's write-up on the Rule 5 draft described Verrett as someone who "succeeds with intelligence more than stuff," and he's been a starter throughout his career in the minors. He had a 4.33 ERA in 162 IP for Las Vegas in the PCL last year.
