Joey Gallo, the Texas Rangers minor league third baseman who is generally considered the top prospect in the system, is expected to make his debut for the Frisco Roughriders this weekend, according to Jon Daniels (via Anthony Andro on Twitter).
Gallo had surgery on his heel to remove the os trigonum bone on April 3, and has been in a walking boot. The expected recovery time for the surgery was two to three weeks, so Gallo will be returning to action around when expected.
Gallo, 21, was ranked the #6 prospect in baseball by Baseball America this past offseason. While splitting the 2014 season between high-A Myrtle Beach and AA Frisco, Gallo posted a .271/.394/.615 slash line. I believe the organization is hoping to see Gallo continue to progress and show improvement in his contact rate at AA, with an eye towards a potential late-season promotion to AAA Round Rock if things go well.
