Good morning folks.
Yesterday was a big day in Ranger-land. Josh Hamilton is apparently coming back, Jerad Eickhoff took a no-hitter into the 9th inning in his first AAA start, and one of the Rangers' Rule 5 picks saw his run with the team come to an end.
Oh, and there was a major league game yesterday.
In case you were in a cave yesterday, the Rangers and Angels are reportedly close to completing a deal that would send Josh Hamilton to the Texas Rangers, along with a huge chunk of cash, for nothing.
Evan Grant says the Rangers would take on little of the financial obligation for Hamilton. In a story that includes supportive quotes from Hamilton's former Ranger teammates, Evan says the Rangers would pay a "token amount" of Hamilton's salary.
Anthony Andro's story on the Hamilton return cites a Jeff Passan story that says the Rangers would be paying $15 million for Hamilton, which would seem to be more than a token amount.
Adrian Beltre, Elvis Andrus and Colby Lewis all say they would welcome Hamilton back.
T.R. Sullivan runs down highlights from Hamilton's time with the Rangers.
Jean-Jacques Taylor says the Rangers and Josh Hamilton need each other. Richard Justice writes that the Rangers and Hamilton needed each other "more than they ever understood."
Kevin Sherrington asks, what do the Rangers have to lose by adding Hamilton?
Jeff Wilson's game story talks about the Rangers losing due to a David Freese home run.
Sullivan's game story emphasizes Wandy Rodriguez's strong start.
Evan's game report references David Freese and Game Six, because the local media hates us, I think.
Sullivan says that Wandy Rodriguez is in a place to fill the Rangers' fifth starter spot.
To clear a spot for Rodriguez, the Rangers DFA'd Rule 5 pick Logan Verrett.
Jerad Eickhoff made his AAA debut yesterday, and came two outs away from a no-hitter.
At WFAA.com, Eddie Middlebrook previews this weekend's series.
The S-T's notes talk about Wandy Rodriguez joining the rotation, Colby Lewis, Joey Gallo and Jerad Eickhoff.
The DMN's notes talk about Kyuji Fujikawa, Wandy, waiver priority, and Eickhoff.
