The Texas Rangers have claimed outfielder Alex Hassan on waivers from the Oakland A's and assigned him to AAA Round Rock, per the guys on Twitter. To make room for Hassan on the 40 man roster, the Rangers have moved Matt Harrison to the 60 day disabled list.
Hassan, 27, had spent his entire career with Boston, who selected him in the 20th round of the 2009 draft, prior to this past offseason. Then he was the object of some waiver claim ping pong, with the A's claiming him from Boston in November, then waiving him (and seeing him claimed by Baltimore) three days later, then re-claiming him when Baltimore waived him in February.
Hassan is a corner outfielder who has spent parts of the past four seasons in AAA, where he has put up a .282/.387/.411 line. I have to think he's primarily a depth guy for the time being.
