Ron Washington has officially been hired by the Oakland A's as a coach, per the A's Twitter feed. According to Jane Lee, Washington will be in uniform, but will not be allowed on the bench during games, as the A's already have the maximum number of coaches who are allowed to be on the field during games.
Wash, of course, was the Rangers manager from 2007 until his shocking resignation late last year. He was in charge during the team's great run from 2009-13, a five year stretch where they were one of the best team's in MLB and appeared in two World Series.
Wash's resignation has been shrouded in mystery, even after an odd press conference in which he acknowledged that his resignation was related to being unfaithful to his wife. Wash was on the Oakland coaching staff for years prior to his being hired by the Rangers, and will apparently be working primarily with the A's infield defense.
