The scouting report on Kyle Blanks is that he mashed lefthanded pitching and can't stay healthy. That, as it turns out, is what the Rangers have gotten from him.
Blanks, who started the season in the minors while dealing with the recovery from an Achilles injury, was brought up in April, has crushed lefthanded pitching, and is now being placed on the 15 day disabled list with a cyst. Per Jeff Wilson on Twitter, the cyst is on his "back side," which seems to be a euphemism for his booty.
Taking Blanks' spot on the 25 man roster is Jake Smolinski, who had been optioned to AAA when Mitch Moreland was activated from the disabled list. If Blanks had been sidelined a couple of days earlier, it might have saved the roster spot of Carlos Peguero, who was DFA'd on Wednesday to make room for Phil Klein.
The Rangers are currently rolling with a three man bench, so while Josh Hamilton is expected to be activated next week, a pitcher will probably be sent down when Hamilton is activated, rather than Smolinski.
