Texas Rangers rumors: Chi Chi Gonzalez starting Saturday?

Chi Chi Gonzalez has been scratched from his start tonight for Round Rock, fueling speculation he will start for Texas on Saturday

Texas Rangers rumors:  Chi Chi Gonzalez has been scratched from his scheduled start tonight for AAA Round Rock, potentially setting the stage for him to make his major league debut against Boston on Saturday.

The Rangers' fifth starter spot has been in flux since Ross Detwiler went on the disabled list a couple of weeks ago.  Phil Klein has started twice, and had one good outing and one disaster outing.  Evan Grant wrote earlier today that Detwiler most likely won't be able to go on Saturday, and Anthony Bass's lengthy outing yesterday likely takes him out of the mix, opening the door for a possible Gonzalez start.

Gonzalez, the Rangers' first round draft pick in 2013, was in the mix for a job in the starting rotation until late this spring, and was one of the stars of camp, impressing with his poise and the movement on his pitches.  He has a 4.15 ERA in 8 starts for Round Rock this year, spanning 43.1 IP, with 26 Ks against 19 walks.  Gonzalez's biggest issue so far this season has been keeping his pitch count down, as he's tended to have long at bats that have limited how deep he can go into games.
