As expected, the Texas Rangers made a move to fortify their bullpen in advance of the series in Houston this week.
Righthanded reliever Spencer Patton has been recalled from AAA Round Rock, replacing Roman Mendez, who has been optioned to AAA.
Mendez had a 5.40 ERA in 11.2 IP, with 9 strikeouts against 7 walks. Patton, a relatively early cut this spring, has allowed just 1 earned run in 9.1 IP for Round Rock, striking out 14 and walking just 84.
Patton, 27, came over to Texas last summer in the Jason Frasor trade.
