Texas Rangers catcher Jorge Alfaro, who was placed on the disabled list a few days back with an ankle injury, will undergo surgery on his left ankle this week.
That comes via Alex Vispoli, who tweets that that information comes from Frisco manager Joe Mikulik, who made the announcement on the Frisco pre-game show. The surgery is anticipated to cost Alfaro most, if not all, of the rest of the season.
This is a big blow for Alfaro, one of the Rangers' top prospects. He has been praised for his improvement defensively this year, and is considered the Rangers' catcher of the future.
