The Texas Rangers have added Joey Gallo and Jake Smolinski to the 25 man roster, have optioned Alex Claudio to AAA Round Rock, and have put Adrian Beltre on the disabled list.
Smolinski normally would not be eligible to be recalled, but since Beltre went on the d.l., he can replace Beltre. Josh Hamilton being unavailable today, and possibly tomorrow, necessitated the move to give the Rangers a healthy backup outfielder. Claudio going down means the Rangers go back to a 7 man bullpen and a 4 man bench.
The Rangers also announced that Ryan Rua will be starting a rehab assignment with Round Rock on Wednesday. He is eligible to be activated from the disabled list on June 10.
