Josh Hamilton update: The Texas Rangers outfielder was thought to possibly be ready to go on a rehab assignment as early as Monday, but per Stefan Stevenson, that's not going to happen.
Instead, Stevenson says, Hamilton will work out with Frisco on Sunday, take Monday off, work out with the Rangers Tuesday, and then be re-evaluated.
Hamilton has been on the d.l. since June 1 with a hamstring injury which he suffered when running to second on his walk-off double on May 31. There was some thought that he could be ready to start a rehab assignment on Monday, but based on Stevenson's news, it is Wednesday at the earliest when he'll be ready to go out.
Texas will probably want Hamilton to play at least three games with Frisco or Round Rock before being activated. The team is currently going with a three man bench, and seems likely to stick with that until Hamilton is ready to return.
