Josh Hamilton's return to the Texas Rangers active roster could be imminent. Hamilton has been lifted from the Round Rock Express game today after two plate appearances, and eyes on the ground there say he is giving hugs in the dugout, an indicator that he could be on his way to Baltimore to meet the Rangers tomorrow and return to the active roster.
If Hamilton is activated tomorrow, the Rangers seem to have three choices in regards to opening up a roster spot for him. Texas could option Joey Gallo, with Hamilton taking over for him as the regular left fielder. Texas could option Hanser Alberto, who is one of two utility infielders, and who has hardly played the last couple of weeks. Or Texas could option Leonys Martin, who has struggled mightily of late, and have Hamilton play center field until Delino DeShields is ready to return from the d.l.
DeShields is DHing for the Express today, and is probably a few more days away from returning, at which point another move will have to be made to open up a roster spot for him. That will probably happen at some point in the coming week. My guess is that tomorrow, though, we will see Hamilton back in the starting lineup for Texas.
