Texas Rangers roster moves: The daily event where the Rangers juggle their roster to accommodate the latest round of injuries has occurred with Josh Hamilton officially landing on the disabled list. To replace Hamilton on the active roster, the Rangers are recalling LHP Ross Detwiler.
No, Detwiler won't be trying out in the outfield after an unsuccessful stint as a starter in the first two months of the season. Instead, Detwiler will return to the bullpen where he belongs. After the Rangers sent down Alex Claudio on Tuesday, the team was in need of another left-handed option to complement Sam Freeman in the 'pen.
As for left field, the Rangers will likely use a combination of Delino DeShields and Jake Smolinski until Kyle Blanks returns or Ryan Rua is ready. Should Adrian Beltre return from his DL stint in a couple of weeks, you might even see Joey Gallo remain on the roster and play in the outfield which he had begun to do regularly in Frisco this season.
In other news, Tommy Field accepted an assignment to Triple-A Round Rock. Field had been designated for assignment last week and went unclaimed. Field could have refused the assignment and become a free agent but he elected to stick around with the Rangers probably because he knows he's one inevitable strain away from returning to his home town team in Arlington.
