Ross Ohlendorf to the disabled list, Spencer Patton recalled

The Rangers have put Ross Ohlendorf on the disabled list with a strained groin

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

Righthanded reliever Ross Ohlendorf has been placed on the 15 day disabled list with a strained groin, per the beat guys on Twitter.  Replacing him on the active roster is righthanded reliever Spencer Patton, who has been recalled from AAA Round Rock.

Ohlendorf appeared to be the favorite to win the long relief job this spring before a recurring groin injury landed him on the disabled list.  The 32 year old was brought up from the minors last month, and has posted a 3.52 ERA in 7.2 IP over 8 innings, with 9 Ks, 4 walks and 2 home runs allowed.

Patton may be up in the majors for just one day, as it is anticipated that Kyle Blanks will be activated from the disabled list on Tuesday.  I'm somewhat surprised that Blanks, who traveled to Kansas City with the team, is not being activated today, especially given that Chi Chi Gonzalez threw a complete game on Friday and the pen only threw two innings yesterday, meaning that there are plenty of fresh arms out there right now.

Interestingly, when asked why he went with Tanner Scheppers instead of Ohlendorf or Keone Kela in the 8th inning last night, Banister said both Ohlendorf and Kela were healthy.
