Jerry DiPoto, the Anaheim Angels general manager, is reportedly no longer the g.m. of the team, per multiple reports.
Various national writers are saying that DiPoto is gone, with one report indicating that he cleaned out his office last night. This is coming on the heels of a Ken Rosenthal story detailing the tension between DiPoto and manager Mike Scioscia coming to a head of late.
DiPoto has been the g.m. since 2011, when he replaced Tony Reagins. Among the folks DiPoto brought to Anaheim was Jon Daniels inner-circle member Scott Servais, who joined DiPoto as assistant general manager. If DiPoto is out, Servais could be out with him, which would raise the possibility of Servais returning to Texas in some capacity.
The consensus from those who cover the Angels is that owner Arte Moreno is Scioscia's bigger supporter, and has backed Scioscia in power struggles with the front office. Presumably, the new general manager will be someone who can show he will play well with the manager.
