The Texas Rangers have set their rotation for this weekend's post-ASB series at Houston, and Martin Perez will be activated from the disabled list in order to start the first game of the second half on Friday. Colby Lewis will start for the Rangers on Saturday, and Yovani Gallardo will start on Sunday.
Because Ross Detwiler has been designated for assignment, there is an open spot on the 40 man roster, which Perez will take when he is formally activated from the 60 day d.l. To make room for Perez on the 25 man roster, the Rangers have optioned reliever Roman Mendez.
Perez underwent surgery in late May, 2014, ending what appeared to have been a breakout campaign for the lefthander. Perez gave up 12 hits and 5 runs in 6 IP yesterday in his final rehab start, but didn't walk anyone, and the reviews on his stuff while he's been on his rehab starts has been very postiive.
Exciting to have Martin Perez back in the rotation, and I'm looking forward to seeing what he does over the final half of the season.
