The Texas Rangers will recall starter Nick Martinez from AAA Round Rock to start in Colorado against the Rockies, per John Blake on Twitter.
Martinez had been optioned prior to the All Star Break, with the Rangers seemingly having opted for a rotation of Martin Perez, Colby Lewis, Yovani Gallardo, Wandy Rodriguez and Matt Harrison. However, Wandy got up and was warming last night in the bullpen, which could mean that Wandy is going to be used as a reliever in the second half.
Alternatively, the Rangers could just be plugging Martinez into the rotation on Monday, and sliding Wandy and Harrison back a day. That would mean Harrison, and his surgically repaired back, wouldn't have to hit in Colorado, and also allows Martinez -- a college position player who is probably the team's best hitting pitcher -- to provide the lineup with a little more oomph than they'd get with your run-of-the-mill pitcher going.
It sounds like Martinez is just making a spot start, and will go back to AAA after Monday, but its possible he'll stick in the rotation. We shall have to wait and see.
No announcement has been made as to what move will be made to clear a roster spot for Martinez, although presumably a reliever will be optioned.
UPDATE -- According to Jeff Banister, this is not a spot start for Martinez -- he's back in the rotation, and taking the place of Wandy Rodriguez, who is going to the bullpen.
