The Texas Rangers have activated relief pitcher Neftali Feliz from the 15 day disabled list, according to John Blake on Twitter. To make room for him on the 25 man roster, the Rangers have optioned starting pitcher Nick Martinez.
This is the first of a pair of moves the Rangers will have to be making, with Feliz and Matt Harrison due to return from the disabled list in the next few days. I speculated this morning, that Feliz and Harrison would replace Ross Detwiler (who could be DFA'd and clear a 40 man roster spot for Harrison) and Nick Martinez, who could be optioned to either give him a break for a week or two, or else let him continue on his regular rest through the All Star Break while monitoring his pitches and innings in the minors.
Feliz hasn't been good this year, either in the majors or in the minors, after showing signs last September that he might be back. If Feliz continues to struggle in July, he could be a 40 man roster casualty when Martin Perez and Derek Holland are ready to return.
