Matt Harrison will make his 2015 debut for the Texas Rangers on Tuesday against Arizona, according to the beat guys on Twitter.
Harrison, who had his final rehab start yesterday, has finished his 30 day rehab stint and has to be activated from the disabled list. The Rangers made room for him in the rotation by optioning Nick Martinez to AAA today. Martinez will likely miss just one start, given that the All Star Break is coming up, and the Rangers can opt to either give him some extra rest -- he's on pace for around 50 innings more than he's ever pitched before -- or let him continue to throw on his regular schedule in the minors without being disrupted by the break.
Harrison's career was thought to be in jeopardy due to his May, 2014, spinal fusion surgery, but he's worked his way back and is going to get the opportunity to be a major league starter again. The Rangers will have to make both a 25 man and a 40 man roster move for Harrison -- Martinez's 25 man spot was taken by Neftali Feliz, who was activated from the d.l. today -- and we talked about the Rangers' possible choices there earlier today.
