Texas Rangers trade rumors: Cole Hamels, Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher, has been a Ranger target for some time, and T.R. Sullivan tweets that the Rangers are "getting close to getting Hamels."
There had been earlier reports that talks had cooled due to the Rangers' refusal to include Joey Gallo or Nomar Mazara in any Hamels deal, but Evan Grant says talks have resumed between the clubs.
The Rangers had also been linked to the Padres, who are looking to deal starting pitching, but Jeff Wilson said earlier today that those discussion had cooled -- which, if the Rangers thought they could make a deal for Hamels, would make sense.
If Mazara and Gallo are off-limits, then the Phillies would likely be looking at at least two players out of the next tier of prospects -- Jorge Alfaro, Nick Williams, Lewis Brinson, Luis Ortiz, Chi Chi Gonzalez and Jake Thompson -- as well as some other pieces.
UPDATE -- Then there's this:
Finishing touches appear to be underway in Hamels to Texas deal.

UPDATE II -- Jeff Wilson says that Nomar Mazara is NOT in the Hamels trade.
UPDATE III -- Nick Williams has apparently been removed from the Frisco game.
UPDATE IV -- T.R. Sullivan says Jorge Alfaro and Jerad Eickhoff are in the deal, but not Nomar Mazara.
UPDATE V -- Per Jeff Wilson, the deal is "complicated" -- money going from Philly to Texas, multiple players going back and forth.
UPDATE VI -- Multiple sources are saying that Jorge Alfaro, Nick Williams and Jerad Eickhoff are going to Philadelphia in this deal for Hamels, and there are additional players from each team in the deal, as well as cash from Philadelphia.
UPDATE VII -- Texas is getting Jake Diekman, a lefty reliever, from Philly in this deal, as well as cash, per Evan Grant.
UPDATE VIII -- T.R. Sullivan says Alec Asher is also going to Philly. That would make the deal Nick Williams, Jorge Alfaro, Alec Asher and Jerad Eickhoff for Cole Hamels, Jake Diekman and cash.
