Carlos Gomez trade: Houston Astros get Gomez, Fiers for four prospects

The Houston Astros have sent four prospects to the Milwaukee Brewers for Carlos Gomez and Mike Fiers

Carlos Gomez trade:  The Houston Astros have acquired outfielder Carlos Gomez and pitcher Mike Fiers from the Milwaukee Brewers for minor league outfielders Brett Phillips and Domingo Santana, and pitchers Josh Hader and Adrian Houser.  In addition, Houston gets international slot money from Milwaukee.

Gomez had been identified as a player that the Rangers had interest in.  A trade was reportedly agreed to yesterday to send Gomez to the New York Mets for pitcher Zack Wheeler and infielder Wilmer Flores.  The Mets nixed the deal over Gomez's medicals, however, giving Houston the opportunity to grab Gomez.

Gomez is under contract for 2016 for $9 million, after which he will be a free agent.  Fiers is making close to the league minimum, with four years of team control after 2015.

The big prize for Milwaukee in this deal is Brett Phillips, an outfielder recently promoted to AA Corpus Christi.  Baseball America ranked Phillips as the #21 prospect in baseball in their midseason rankings.
