Chi Chi Gonzalez couldn't make it out of the second inning yesterday, resulting in the Rangers having to use long man Anthony Bass for over 80 pitches.
So the Rangers, needing a reliever who can go multiple innings, have recalled righthander Anthony Ranaudo from AAA Round Rock to join the bullpen. To make room for Ranaudo, the Rangers have optioned Gonzalez, who will likely get a couple of starts at AAA this week and during the All Star Break before the Rangers make a decision on whether to bring him back after the Break.
Meanwhile, the Rangers have activated Matt Harrison from the 60 day disabled list. He takes the 25 man and 40 man roster spot of Neftali Feliz, who was designated for assignment yesterday.
Harrison is going to start against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday. Yovani Gallardo with start against Arizona on Tuesday, which sets him up to also pitch in the final game before the All Star Break, a week from Sunday.
