Baseball Prospectus Top 50 prospects: Texas Rangers place five

The Rangers have five prospects in the Baseball Prospectus top 50 list, including two in the top six

Baseball Prospectus Top 50 prospects:  Texas Rangers have five prospects in the new BP top 50 prospect list which was just released.

Joey Gallo and Nomar Mazara lead the Rangers' contingent, placing #5 and #6, overall.  While Gallo isn't a surprise, I think that some folks might not be expecting Mazara to be so high -- remember, just 14 months ago, he was being written off as an expensive bust while struggling in low-A ball.

Also making the cut are outfielder Nick Williams, who is at #21; righthanded pitcher Jake Thompson, who is at #30; and catcher Jorge Alfaro, who is at #34.

It is an impressive result for the Rangers' farm system, and depending on your point of view, can make you excited about what these guys -- all of whom are at AA except for Gallo, who is at AAA -- could be doing in the near future, or can make you lobby for a Cole Hamels trade, depending on your point of view.
