Texas Rangers rumors: Neftali Feliz, who was designated for assignment last weekend when Matt Harrison was activated, has cleared waivers, according to a report from Chris Cotillo. Jon Daniels had previously said that the Rangers would try to trade the struggling righthanded reliever, but if this report is true, Texas apparently could find no deals the team found acceptable.
Feliz has enough service time to reject an outright assignment and become a free agent. Alternatively, he could accept the assignment and, presumably, pitch out of the Round Rock bullpen.
Feliz started the year as the Rangers' closer, but lost the job to Shawn Tolleson before landing on the disabled list. Feliz underwent Tommy John surgery in July, 2012, and has struggled to regain the velocity and command he had pre-surgery. Feliz appeared to have turned a corner last September, when he suddenly began throwing in the mid- to upper-90s again, but that has not carried over to this season.
