The Texas Rangers had to make a pair of moves today to make room on the active roster for newly acquired Cole Hamels and Sam Dyson. Those moves have now been announced, with Keone Kela being optioned to AA Frisco and Robinson Chirinos going to the disabled list.
Chirinos strained his shoulder swinging a bat, and thus will apparently be on the shelf for at least hte next couple of weeks. Kela, meanwhile, is being optioned basically to give him a break, per Jeff Wilson on Twitter. Kela leads the A.L. in appearances, and this allows the team the opportunity to let him rest a bit before the stretch run.
