The Texas Rangers have recalled reliever Keone Kela from AA Frisco. To make room for him on the 25 man roster, the Rangers have optioned reliever Luke Jackson.
Kela, 22, was leading the A.L. in appearances when he was sent down at the beginning of the month in an effort to give him a break and limit his innings. Kela appeared in two games for Frisco, on August 6 and August 8, and pitched an inning in each game.
Kela will likely join newly-acquired Sam Dyson in a setup role going forward. Kela has a 3.30 ERA in 43.2 IP this season, with 47 Ks, 14 walks and 4 homers allowed.
Jackson was called up five days ago, but never appeared in a game before being sent down. He was, if you recall, the subject of some controversy on Saturday, when Jeff Banister opted to have Shawn Tolleson pitch the 11th inning with an 8 run lead rather than use Jackson or Anthony Bass.
