Lefthanded pitcher Andrew Faulkner and catcher Pat Cantwell have been promoted to AAA Round Rock, as part of a series of promotions and moves the Rangers have made in their farm system.
Faulkner, a 22 year old lefthander, has spent the entire year at Frisco, and has blossomed since being moved into a relief role. In 17.2 IP in relief, Faulkner has a 2.04 ERA, with 22 Ks against 9 walks and just 9 hits. Since Faulkner is Rule 5 eligible after the season, it wouldn't be surprising to see the Rangers bring him up in September and get a look at him out of the pen.
Cantwell was the Rangers 3rd round pick in 2012, and has developed a strong reputation within the organization for his defense and game-calling.
Other transactions include Kellin Deglan, one of the Rangers' first round draft picks in the 2010 draft, being promoted to AA Frisco from high-A High Desert, as well as 23 year old righthanded reliever Jose Valdespina, who put up a 2.25 ERA in 32 IP for High Desert.
In addition, reliever Tanner Scheppers, currently on the major league disabled list, has been assigned to Frisco on a rehab assignment.
