Chi Chi Gonzalez to start for Texas on Thursday

The Rangers will call up Chi Chi Gonzalez tomorrow to make a spot start in place of Cole Hamels

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Chi Chi Gonzalez will be called up tomorrow to make a spot start for the Texas Rangers against the Minnesota Twins, per the usual folks on Twitter.

Gonzalez will be starting in place of Cole Hamels, who is having his next start pushed back due to a groin issue that started bothering him in his last start on Saturday.  It remains to be seen when Hamels will make his next start.

No word yet on what move will be made to clear a roster spot for Chi Chi, although the most likely move will be to send down Spencer Patton or Anthony Bass, assuming Hamels doesn't have to go on the d.l.

Chi Chi was called up to the majors at the end of May and made 7 starts, putting up a 3.74 ERA and a 4.76 FIP.  His biggest issue was missing bats, as he was striking out barely more than 3 batters per 9 IP during his stint in the bigs.
