51-53 - Martin Perez throws a gem for Rodney, Rangers take series

Martin Perez stars on the mound for the Rangers as Texas takes the series from the Giants

Yay 'Teen!
Whew

I'M CHOOSING TO IGNORE THE ENTIRE 9TH INNING AND YOU ARE REQUIRED TO DO THE SAME

Here's a fun fact: In the six games of the current homestand for the Rangers prior to today, the team that scored first had lost all six games. I guess that's why the Rangers were reluctant to plate that first run today as they stranded a bunch of runners in the first few innings. Maybe they realized around halfway through that Martin Perez wasn't going to allow a reliever to touch a ball today and decided they might as well get him a run.

Josh Hamilton was up to the task as he hit a rocket for a two-run home run 6th inning to give the Rangers, and Perez, all the runs that they would need (Barely. What the fuck was that 9th inning, Jeff Banister?) (Sorry.).

Just like that, the Rangers have won four of five and take their first three-game series at home since mid-June against the Minnesota Twins.

On a heavy note, long time member of this community Rodney Follmer was injured today and is currently comatose. The doctors believe that he will make a recovery but he currently has brain swelling. Let's all wish Rodney the best. Hope he knows that we love him and that Marteen tossed a great game for him today.

Player of the Game: Boy, Marteen was April 2014 good against the Giants today. It took Perez just 79 pitches (60 strikes) to shut down San Francisco over 8 1/3 innings while striking out six. It took him a couple of starts to get re-acclimated to the big leagues after his lengthy TJS rehab, but Perez today looked like the guy we were hoping he'd grow into someday. That was special.
