Josh Hamilton to the disabled list

The Rangers have placed Josh Hamilton on the disabled list, and have added Will Venable to the active roster

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

The Texas Rangers have placed outfielder Josh Hamilton on the disabled list today, opening up a roster spot for newly acquired outfielder Will Venable.

Hamilton has been dealing with a sore knee for some time, and has not played since Saturday.  He's been put on the d.l. retroactive to August 16, which would put him on track to be activated when rosters expand on September 1.

Hamilton has had some big hits for Texas since coming over from Anaheim, but his overall numbers have been mediocre -- .254/.296/.430 in 152 plate appearances.  Venable, meanwhile, has a .258/.318/.378 line in 308 plate appearances while with the Padres.
