Texas Rangers rumors: Jon Edwards to San Diego in Venable deal

Reliever Jon Edwards is reportedly the player to be named later in the Will Venable deal

Texas Rangers rumors:  Jon Edwards to San Diego as the player to be named later in the Will Venable deal is being reported by Jeff Wilson on Twitter.

Edwards is a righthanded reliever who has a pretty cool backstory, being a former outfielder who converted to pitching while with Alpine in the Independent Pecos League.  Texas signed him in 2012 and he worked his way up the ladder, but appeared in danger of being released early in the 2014 after struggling at Frisco.  He turned it around, though, and ended up being called up last year to the majors.

Edwards has been terrific for Round Rock this season and erratic when in the majors, with a mid-90s fastball and a decent slider, along with command problems.  Edwards has reportedly been put on trade waivers, and assuming he clears (or San Diego claims him), he can be sent to the Padres to consummate the deal and open up a 40 man roster spot for Texas.
