The Texas Rangers have announced that righthanded reliever Jon Edwards has been sent to the San Diego Padres as the player to be named later in the trade that sent outfielder Will Venable to Texas.
It was reported yesterday that Edwards was the PTBNL, and would be sent to San Diego once he cleared trade waivers. The Padres also received minor leaguer Marcus Greene as part of the deal.
With Edwards going to San Diego, the Rangers' 40 man roster now stands at 39. The only player on the 60 day disabled list who might be activated before season's end (and thus take up that empty roster spot) is Kyle Blanks, although with Blanks not having started a rehab assignment yet, and Mike Napoli filling the RH 1B/DH job, Blanks might not be activated at all.
The Rangers could look to purchase the contract of Andrew Faulkner in September, in order to give the team another lefthanded relief arm in the bullpen, or add Adam Rosales as an extra utility infielder in September, should Rosales clear waivers.
