The Texas Rangers have traded outfielder Michael Choice to the Cleveland Indians for cash considerations. Choice had been designated for assignment earlier this week to make room on the 40 man roster for newly acquired outfielder Will Venable.
Choice, who turns 26 in November, was the #10 overall pick in the 2010 draft, being selected by the Oakland A's out of the University of Texas at Arlington. The Mansfield native was traded to Texas, along with infielder Chris Bostick, in exchange for pitcher Josh Lindblom and outfielder Craig Gentry in the 2013-14 offseason. Choice split last season between AAA and the majors, but was awful while in the big leagues, putting up a .182/.250/.320 line with poor defense. In 2015, other than one at bat for Texas, Choice has spent the year in AAA, putting up a .244/.309/.399 line for the Express.
The Rangers currently have 39 players on their 40 man roster.
