Lefthander Mark Buehrle is starting for the Toronto Blue Jays against the Rangers tonight, but Mike Napoli, acquired to play against lefthanded starting pitchers, is not in the starting lineup. No word yet as to why that is the case.
Tonight's lineup:
DeShields -- CF
Choo -- RF
Prince -- DH
Beltre -- 3B
Moreland -- 1B
Elvis -- SS
Odor -- 2B
Wilson -- C
Strausborger -- LF
Derek Holland is on the mound for Texas.
UPDATE -- Per the folks on Twitter, Jeff Banister apparently gave a detailed explanation of his decision pre-game, explaining it had to do with Buehrle not having significant splits, and being the type of pitcher that Moreland would do better against than Napoli. As for Buehrle's splits:
So with three lefties in a row (David Price goes tomorrow), if you want Moreland not to sit for three straight games, today is when you'd play him. And with Buehrle's basically non-existent historical splits, it likely doesn't gain you any advantage to have Napoli in the lineup instead of Moreland.
