The Texas Rangers have claimed 27 year old lefthanded pitcher Chris Rearick on waivers from the San Diego Padres.
Rearick, a 41st round pick of the Tampa Bay Rays in 2010, has spent most of this season with El Paso in the PCL, putting up a 5.23 ERA in 43 IP with 30 walks and 28 Ks. He also has 5 major league appearances, all this year with the Padres, and has allowed 4 runs in 3 IP, with 2 home runs, 2 walks and 4 Ks.
With the addition of Rearick, the Rangers' 40 man roster is now full.
In addition, the Rangers have announced that catcher Carlos Corporan will begin a rehab assignment with AA Frisco tonight. Corporan has been on the disabled list since mid-July with a sprained thumb. Both of the Rangers' primary two catchers, Corporan and Robinson Chirinos, are currently on the d.l. Starting a rehab assignment now would seemingly put Corporan on schedule to return to the active roster on September 1, when rosters expand.
