Derek Holland rehab start: 63 pitches were registered by Derek Holland today over 3.1 IP for the Frisco Roughriders in his latest rehab start.
Holland is working to return from a shoulder injury that has sidelined him for all but one inning in the majors this year. Holland gave up a 3 run home run to the third batter he faced, but didn't allow any runs after that. His final line was 3.1 IP, 7 hits, 1 walk, 5 Ks, 43 strikes in 63 pitches.
The reports on Twitter indicated that Holland's velocity was in the lower-90s. Holland appears likely to make another rehab start around August 14, where he'll throw 75-80 pitches, and then at that point the Rangers will decide whether they want to activate him and put him back in the major league rotation, or leave him down for another start where he would go 90-100 pitches.
The Ranger rotation currently consists of Cole Hamels, Martin Perez, Colby Lewis, Yovani Gallardo and Nick Martinez. Barring injury, Martinez would likely be the odd man out when Holland returns.
UPDATE -- Per Anthony Andro on Twitter, Holland's next start is Friday for Frisco.
