Hamilton to have surgery, Chi Chi starts Sunday

Reports indicate that Chi Chi Gonzalez will be starting for Texas on Sunday, and Josh Hamilton will have knee surgery tomorrow

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Per the beat guys on Twitter, Josh Hamilton is going to have "clean up" arthroscopic surgery on his left knee tomorrow.  The indications is that they are hopeful that Hamilton can return this season, but given how limited he was pre-surgery, and how little time is remaining in the season, I have to think he's likely done for the year.

In addition, Chi Chi Gonzalez will be recalled and start for the Rangers on Sunday.  Gonzalez pitched yesterday for Round Rock, but only went two innings, in anticipation of a possible call-up on Sunday.

By having Chi Chi start on Sunday, the Rangers are able to move Cole Hamels back to a Monday start, which lets him start against Houston in this series, as well as pick up a start in the final series against Houston.  Under the previous schedule, Hamels wouldn't have started against Houston in either of the two remaining series.
