The Rangers still aren't firing on all cylinders with the bats on this road trip but that's OK when you shut out the other team. Texas was able to muster up a couple of runs on a bases loaded two-RBI single by Adrian Beltre and added a run when Rougned Odor hustled home from third base on a wild pitch.
Yovani Gallardo's outing once again didn't last very long as he went just 5 1/3 innings but the Rangers have sort of figured out that five-to-six innings or 95 pitches is just who Gallardo is and the August Ranger of the month of August tossed zeroes in his time so you can't complain.
The Astros lost in Oakland today so the Rangers are once again back to within two games of Houston and just one game back in the loss column.
Player of the Game: Gallardo and Beltre are the headliners but the story for me was LHP Andrew Faulker pitching 1 2/3 innings of hitless baseball in relief of Gallardo while striking out three Mariners in just his third big league appearance.
