Texas places one (or two) on BA Texas League top 20 list

A current Ranger prospect and a former Ranger prospect make Baseball America's top 20 list for the Texas League

Rick Scuteri-USA TODAY Sports

The Texas Rangers had one prospect make the Baseball America top 20 prospect list for the Texas League, as well as one former prospect.

The Ranger prospect who made the cut is 21 year old lefthanded pitcher Yohander Mendez.  Mendez stayed healthy all year and ended up pitching at four levels, starting at high-A and ending the year in the majors.  BA sees him as a potential mid-rotation starter, and praises his plus changeup.

The former Ranger prospect who made the list is outfielder Lewis Brinson.  Brinson, who was sent, along with Luis Ortiz and Ryan Cordell, to the Brewers for Jonathan Lucroy and Jeremy Jeffress, checks in at #10.  I'm still bummed Brinson is gone (though I'm glad Lucroy is a Ranger).

Ortiz probably didn't make the list because he didn't have enough innings, and Cordell just had an okay season, making his omission unsurprising.  Ronald Guzman likely was in consideration after a solid year at Frisco, but there continue to be concerns about how well his bat will play at the higher levels.
