Texas Rangers rumors: Thad Levine to the Minnesota Twins is the report out there tonight, with Evan Grant saying that the Rangers’ assistant general manager is expected to leave the organization to become the new general manager for the Twins.
That’s a pretty big blow to the Rangers’ front office, as Levine has been one of Jon Daniels’ top lieutenants from the time Daniels became the Rangers’ general manager. Levine was a candidate for the Angels’ g.m. job in late 2015, though that gig ended up going to Billy Eppler from the Yankees organization.
Prior to 2010, Daniels narrowed his inner circle, and it was generally perceived that the brain trust was Daniels, Levine, A.J. Preller, Don Welke, and Scott Servais. Preller, Welke and Servais have all left, and if Levine goes, that will leave just Daniels from that group.
