Baseball America has released their top 20 prospect list for the California League, and the Rangers placed two prospects on the list -- Ariel Jurado, at #10, and Jose Trevino, at #18.
In addition, former Ranger prospect Travis Demeritte, who was traded to the Atlanta Braves for Lucas Harrell and Dario Alvarez this summer, was #8 on the list. For what it is worth, I would put Jurado above Demeritte.
BA praised Jurado as a guy with a mid-rotation starting pitcher ceiling, due to being able to throw three pitches for strikes while having success in High Desert. Trevino, meanwhile, earned high marks for his defense, profiling as a 4-4.5 role player in the majors, potentially.
Yohander Mendez and Luis Ortiz would, I suspect, have cracked the top 5 in what BA describes as a very down year for eligible prospects in the Cal League, but they did not have enough innings to qualify for the list.
