Former Texas Rangers pitcher John Barfield was shot and killed in Little Rock, Arkansas, on Christmas Eve, according to the Associated Press. The AP says the incident occurred “after an altercation with an acquaintance.” The shooter, William Goodman, has been arrested and charged with first degree murder.
Barfield, 52, was an 11th round pick of the Rangers in the 1986 draft. The lefthander appeared in 65 career games, including 11 starts, for the Rangers from 1989-91, going 8-8 with a 4.72 ERA in 139.1 IP in the majors.
Barfield pitched in the minors from 1992-97, and then in the Independent Atlanta League in 1998.
