Keith Law's farm system rankings have the Rangers at #9

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Keith Law rankings:  The Texas Rangers have the ninth best farm system in baseball, according to Keith Law in his latest team farm system rankings.  That's up from #11 last year, and puts the Rangers between the Pirates, at #8, and the BoSox, at #10.

The Rangers have a nice combination of top-end impact prospects and depth...Joey Gallo, Nomar Mazara and Lewis Brinson give the Rangers three position prospects who are generally considered to be among the top 25 prospects in the game.  Righthanders Dillon Tate and Luis Ortiz, the team's first round picks in 2015 and 2014, are also looked at as upper-echelon prospects.  Law says the Rangers have five players in his top 100 this year, and those five would appear to be the five he is referring to.

There's a dropoff after that top five in terms of talent, but the Rangers still have a deep collection of players behind that top tier.  Its a testament to the front office that, despite lacking premium draft picks (other than in 2015) for the last several years, and after dealing five prospects to Philly in the Cole Hamels trade, the Rangers still have a quality, well-regarded farm system in place.
