Cafardo puts Banister in bottom half of MLB managers

Nick Cafardo ranks all 30 MLB managers, and Rangers manager Jeff Banister is in the bottom half

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

Jeff Banister may have won the American League Manager of the Year Award in 2015, but in the rankings Nick Cafardo put together of all the managers in MLB, Banister isn't even in the top half.  Banister, who led the Rangers to a division title in his rookie managerial campaign, is slotted in at #16 in Cafardo's rankings -- one spot ahead of Astro manager A.J. Hinch, who led the Astros to a wild card berth, and who finished 2nd in the A.L. balloting.

I don't profess to have a real good handle on who is good and who is bad as far as managers go.  You can apply the iceberg analogy to managers -- what we can see above the surface is just a small fraction of what their job entails.  So I'm not going to hammer Cafardo for having Banister 16th, or defend him.  I will say, though, that from what I've observed, I'm perfectly fine with Jeff Banister managing the Rangers (even if I still miss Ron Washington).
