The Texas Rangers' A.L. West rival, the Oakland A's, have suffered a blow to their rotation, as starting pitcher Felix Doubront has a torn UCL and will be undergoing Tommy John surgery.
Doubront, 28, was acquired from the Blue Jays at the end of July by the A's, and was expected to help round out their rotation this year. Instead, it appears he will be spending the season recovering from surgery. Doubront is on a one year deal, so he will likely become a free agent this offseason (I suspect the A's will non-tender him rather than offer him arbitration) and look to sign a minor league deal with a team next year where he can get back on a mound in June or so and continue his recovery.
