The Texas Rangers got good Derek Holland for like 80% of his start today in Chicago. Unfortunately, bad Derek Holland showed up in the 5th inning of a 1-1 game and allowed a walk, double, wild pitch, walk, sac fly, double and it was suddenly 3-1 Chicago.
Texas had runners on first and third with one out in the 5th and 6th as they looked to claw back into a close game but Prince Fielder and Ryan Rua each grounded into double plays that ended the threats. In the 8th, the Rangers had two on and one out but again couldn't plate a run as Texas ended up scoring a total of four runs over the three games.
It's no surprise then that they were swept for the first time on the road since September of 2014.
Player of the Game: Well, Nomar Mazara hit a long home run two hitters into the game and then the Rangers didn't do much of anything. Only Mazara should be allowed free Chipotle on the flight home.
Up Next: It's more bad news as the Rangers open a home series against the New York Yankees without Cole Hamels as the left-hander has been scratched with a groin issue. No word yet on who will make the start for Texas. The Yankees will send RHP Nathan Eovaldi to the mound. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm CT.
