Texas Rangers add Cesar Ramos, option Nick Martinez

The Texas Rangers have purchased the contract of Cesar Ramos, and optioned Nick Martinez to AAA

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

The Texas Rangers have purchased the contract of lefthanded pitcher Cesar Ramos, tonight's starter, from AAA Round Rock, per John Blake on Twitter.  To make room for Ramos on the 40 man roster, the Rangers have moved Keone Kela to the 60 day disabled list.  To make room for Ramos on the 25 man roster, the Rangers have optioned pitcher Nick Martinez.

I am a little surprised that Martinez was sent down, since lefty Alex Claudio threw a fair amount of pitches last night, but the Rangers may feel like the Yankees, who are more vulnerable to lefthanded pitching right now, create a matchup where they want two lefties in the bullpen.  Martinez was called up to be the team's long man, and in his only appearance, picked up the loss in extra innings in Chicago on Saturday while recording just a single out.

Martinez will presumably re-join the Round Rock rotation, and we shall wait and see what the Rangers will do with Ramos after tonight's game.
